FAQ
Does my aquarium depend on the server?
Section titled “Does my aquarium depend on the server?”Not for the essentials. Lighting schedules, rules and their safeties are stored in each ESP32 controller. If the server stops, they keep applying. You temporarily lose the interface, live history and notifications.
Do I need a controller to use AquasManager?
Section titled “Do I need a controller to use AquasManager?”No. Without hardware, AquasManager is still a complete tracking tool: livestock, water parameters, ICP tests, maintenance, stock and frags. Controllers come in when you want to control your equipment.
Freshwater or saltwater?
Section titled “Freshwater or saltwater?”Both. Each aquarium’s water type adapts the species catalogue and the default parameter targets.
I changed a rule and nothing changes on the ESP.
Section titled “I changed a rule and nothing changes on the ESP.”Rules and schedules are compiled into the firmware: you need to reflash the controller. The Controllers menu shows a badge when a controller needs reflashing.
The controller doesn’t show up in automatic discovery.
Section titled “The controller doesn’t show up in automatic discovery.”In a Docker install, discovery (mDNS) doesn’t cross the containers’ network. Add the controller by hand
with its IP address, or switch the api service to network_mode: host. A new board must also have
received a first ESPHome firmware over USB: see ESP32 board.
I can’t install the app or turn on notifications.
Section titled “I can’t install the app or turn on notifications.”These features require the interface to be served over HTTPS. Put AquasManager behind an HTTPS proxy: see Installation. On iPhone, install the app on the home screen first.
Does my data go out onto the Internet?
Section titled “Does my data go out onto the Internet?”No. The database and photos stay on your server. Only the services you turn on see any data: notifications (Telegram, ntfy, push) and the AI assistant if you connect it to an external service rather than a local model.
The installation also downloads the shared species catalogue (sending nothing), and whatever you
choose to suggest (species, correction, idea) goes, without your credentials, to the publisher’s
service. Group orders also go through this service, only if you
organise or join one. All of this is turned off with AQUAS_HUB_URL=none (see
Configuration).
How do I suggest an idea or report something missing?
Section titled “How do I suggest an idea or report something missing?”In your account menu: Suggest an idea (Proposer une idée). No account needed: the idea becomes a public request on aquasmanager/aquasmanager, discussed before it may be developed.
Which ICP lab is supported?
Section titled “Which ICP lab is supported?”ATI PDF reports are recognised. Values are always presented for review before import.
Where can I find what’s new?
Section titled “Where can I find what’s new?”In the release notes, also available as an RSS feed.
